I fought the comfort of a deep sleep to wake at 4:30 and head up to Sunrise Highway hoping for a nice sunrise over Anza Borrego Desert. Nothing worth the effort emerged but continuing north on Sunrise I found some nice, low-lying fog creeping around some trees with steep hills as a backdrop. What more could a photographer ask for!
I wanted to go low-key with these for a dramatically dark, dreary and foreboding feel. Just couldn't get it to work though. So I used the opposite approach and leaned into hi-key, pulling back just enough to gain some texture. There's hardly a shadow worthy of the name, yet I like them.
