Art in Residence - Peter Tellone

March 01, 2019  •  6 Comments

Last year I decided to do some "support the arts" buying and picked up a handful of images from local, and not-so-local, photographers.  Though 2018 was a purposeful effort it started a few years earlier when I bought this canvas work by my friend Peter Tellone (I'm still waiting for him to become famous).

Katherine and I were looking for a bold print to occupy a wall off the kitchen and visible from everywhere in the front of the house. She wanted red and nothing I had was either red enough or bold enough.  Peter's work, entitled Pacific Beach Pier Sunset fit the bill perfectly.  Big, bold colors, plenty of red, a nice yellow in the eye of the circular abstract.  Its striking 36" square of red and yellow hangs in our nook and I see it each morning as I write and work on images. Follow this link to Peter's print store.

For the next few Fridays I will be doing a short write-up of a piece I've picked up in the hope it encourages some to support local artists and pass the word on what you're seeing out there.

This is a great idea, Joe. I love the photograph and look forward to spending a little more time going through Peter's work. I also look forward to seeing what you have to show in the coming weeks. It's always great seeing the work of others, especially when it differs from our own.

That is a striking image. In a good way :) I will need to look at Peter's other work.
I admire your quest to support the arts by bringing the arts into your home. I knew a couple who built their house and designed it in a way that was as much art gallery as it was living space. They designed it down to the placement of windows so that no art work would ever get direct sunlight but would always be perfectly lit in an ambient way. It was quite something. And their art collection was like nothing I have ever seen in a private home. We lost touch over time which is a shame but I am glad that I got to see it. And as much as I liked their house and their collection and how it all worked so well together, for my own place I only like blank walls. Bet you didn't see that one coming :) I don't know why that is. I don't like anything ornamental or decorative in my home. Go figure. Having said that, my wife does like that stuff and sadly her design and artistic tastes do not match mine :) But hey, happy wife, happy life, right?

Peter is already famous as far as I'm concerned! Supporting the arts is great, and supporting a good friend is even greater.

Nice idea---I'll be following your posts on this topic.

This will be an interesting series of postings. It's nice to see what you wake up to in your home and what other photographers you follow. Also to follow the links to their galleries and see how their style differs from yours artistically. I've often wondered how each artists creates his/her own "niche" style and it's fun to see how each one differs..
