There is nothing in a caterpillar that tells you it's going to be a butterfly.

This caterpillar has been in its cocoon for 6 years.  I've seen it, poked it a few times, but never considered it to have butterfly potential. Seeing those clouds come alive while working on it today changed my mind.

It's amazing sometimes how long it takes for an idea or image to marinate in the back of our mind before it's ready to be placed on the grill and served to our guests. Nice work sticking with it, Joe.
The merits of perseverance, Joe! This is part of what keeps me going in photography: you learn to see, to discover, you become attentive, and this way life does not just pass but you can live it, enjoy aspects that tend to go unnoticed by many, get exchanged for exotic, instagramable but short-lived thrills.

Yes, clouds are a living part of nature, just as we are. Arrogance and lack of knowledge kept me from believing that in the past. I have watched in awe as a caterpillar took on its new life.
Its a very good picture. Reminds me of dream.

I'm so glad you fussed with the clouds enough to change your mind, Joe. The colors are wonderful. I like the variety in the tree shapes, and the dip in elevation adds a nice bit of irregularity. I like the bands of color (black, white, then yellow giving way to blue) and the puff of the cloud smack in the middle.
